Summer 2012 was exciting time – my first Long Term Observation Mission and my first visit to South East Asia.  Lucky to be sent to observe the elections in the Lautem District, I can only confirm the “rumors” considering this far eastern piece of East Timor to be the most beautiful part of the country.

Between meeting the officials, following the electoral campaign and writing reports  there was still some time to enjoy the virgin beaches, ancient and mysterious cave drawings of Tutuala, traditional ceremonies in Lautem, magnificent Luro mountains, dense  jungle and fishermen villages.

Among all the experiences, the most memorable ones are those with people of Timor, proud of their history, faithful to their ancestors and traditions, yet receptive and kind to foreigners. Summer 2012 was a wonderful time.
